The Death of Superman is an upcoming animated superhero film produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment. It is based on the DC Comics comic book storyline of the same name. The film, which chronicles the battle between Superman (Jerry O'Connell) and Doomsday, is the 32nd installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line and the 11th film in the DC Animated Movie Universe. The Death of Superman is scheduled be released August 7, 2018. A sequel, Reign of the Supermen, is due to be released in 2019.

Premise
When a unstoppable monster emerges from an asteroid that landed on Earth and begins a mindless killing rampage, the Justice League is quickly called in to stop the colossal force of nature. Unfortunately, after battling their way against the monster through America, it soon becomes apparent that only Superman can stand against the monstrosity that has been nicknamed Doomsday. While battling throughout Metropolis, the two fight to a standstill as they reach the heart of Metropolis. Going punch for punch, Superman finally ends the threat of Doomsday as he throws one last punch and collapses forever as the entire planet watches in devastation over the death of Superman.

Production
The Death of Superman is intended to be the 32nd installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line, the 11th film in the DC Animated Movie Universe, and is based on the 1992--1993 DC Comics comic book storyline of the same name. The story had previously been adapted in the 2007 film Superman: Doomsday. However, Superman: Doomsday greatly altered and condensed the story to fit it within a 75-minute runtime. The Death of Superman was written to be much more faithful to the original story; according to DC's Tim Beedle, the film is "much less condensed and will include many of the fan-favorite moments from the story that were left out of Doomsday." The film is co-directed by Jake Castorena and produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Films. According to supervising producer James Tucker, a primary theme of the film is relationships and their impact on Superman's world.
Release
The Death of Superman will be released direct-to-video August 7, 2018, distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on DVD, Blu-ray, and on digital distribution platforms July 24, 2018. Prior to its planned release, the film was leaked in June 2018.
Sequel
A sequel to The Death of Superman, Reign of the Supermen, will be released in early 2019. It will be based on the second part of the storyline, and is expected to feature Kon-El / Superboy, Steel, Eradicator, and Cyborg Superman.
