Yaraana is a 1995 Bollywood film which stars Rishi Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Raj Babbar, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor. Film is a remake of the American film Sleeping with the Enemy starring Julia Roberts.

Synopsis

The story is entered upon a beautiful and attractive woman called Lalita (Madhuri Dixit) who catches the eye of JB (Raj Babbar). JB suffers from a personality disorder such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Narcisstic personality disorder (whereby he think that everything he does is right) .

Much to Lalita's dismay, JB uses his influence and opulent wealth to approach her uncle, Madhi and convince him to arrange his wedding with his niece, Lalita. Lalita immediately refuses to be married to JB and when JB finds out, he decides to kidnap her and imprison her inside his home until the day of the wedding!

She is watched over by JB and his guards but finally, one day Lalita manages to escape by feigning unconsciousness through fainting .

Lalita escapes the city and moves far far away, where she starts a new life, and meets Raj (Rishi Kapoor) who at first she uses him as a cover, but they both fall in love with each other. She uses the name Shikha instead. Raj's grandfather Rai Saheb (Kader Khan) is happy that his grandson wants to marry Shikha and he arranges for their wedding.

Unfortunately, JB is relentless on the look-out for his run-away bride, eventually finds out from Lalita's mother who is in a nursing home, that Lalita is still alive and quickly traces her location.

JB spots Lalita at a fairground with Raj and is filled with immense anger. JB visits Raj's house, with Lalita's devious uncle in tow. Lalita's uncle goes ahead and explains Raj that Lalita was JB's bride but she ran away to which Raj is disappointed with Lalita- why she didn't confide in him all these details?

Therefore, once again poor Lalita is taken away and forced to be a dutiful wife to JB ,and after much hiding and frustration, Lalita decides to take matters into her own hands...

Trivia

Govinda was first approached as the lead opposite Madhuri Dixit but things didn't work out. After Govinda rejected Jackie Shroff was approached but his dates were blocked for the other projects. This resulted Rishi Kapoor to be the part of the movie.

Kamal Hassan was offered Raj Babbar's role but declined it because he did not want to play a villain.
